Media Prima Berhad had been hit by Ramsonware and, all the computer systems in the company have been locked, by cyber criminal, who then, demanded a RM26m equivalent to 1000 BTC as per current date.

According to The Star Online report, the attack took place on the 8th November 2018 and thus, the entire computer system has been locked. Ransomware is a type of malicious software from cryptovirology that threatens to publish the victim’s data or perpetually block access to it unless a ransom is paid.

It has been reported that, Media Prima has migrated to Google’s G Suite email system, which, in general, it always scans an extensive scanning for any malicious attachment within the email itself.

As for the outcome of this cyber attack, the Media Prima Chairman,  Datuk Kamal Khalid, had decided on not to pay the amount of the money asked by the cyber criminal.

I am still waiting for an official statement from the media company regarding this issue.
