This tutorial’s purpose is to set up the internet for Malaysian ISP’s, UniFi and Maxis. This guide is applicable to all Ubiquiti EdgeRouter models. Please to be ensured that, this tutorial is only for setting up the internet and the settings for IPTV will be skipped as not many prefer watching IPTVs. For this tutorial, I will be using an EdgeRouter 6P router as my new internet gateway, replacing my ageing AC68U. The process of setting up is pretty simple, way simpler compared to setting up consumer-based router.
Firstly, key in 192.168.1.1 in the address bar of your preferred browser, in my tutorial, I will be using MS Edge (Chromium). Click on the ‘Advanced‘ button.
Next, you will be directed to the GUI of the EdgeRouter. The default username and password is, ubnt and ubnt. Tick on the “I agree” confirmation checkbox and click on the login button.
The GUI will prompt a message box, asking you to proceed to set up the router for the first use. Click on the ‘Yes‘ button.
This is a very crucial step where you have to pick the eth0 from the drop-down menu to act as WAN port and pick PPPoE option. The option will further show the PPPoE user credentials and you will be needing to insert the username and password given by your ISP. Before finishing up the process, be make sure to tick on the ‘Internet connection is on VLAN‘ checkbox and key in the VLAN ID for your ISP, i.e. 500 for UniFi and 621 for Maxis. Leave the Firewall checkbox to be enabled.
After setting up the router, it is advisable to download the latest firmware issued for your model, here.
